I have been thinking about you a lot lately Gary and I wanted to thank you. I thought this was the best place to do it. I was lucky enough to have you come into my life in a very unexpected way. No, I was never lucky enough to meet you but I can say that I am now lucky to have you in my life. It touched my heart everytime I come to this site and see all the incredible things that people say about you. You have touched so many lives in so many ways. I can only hope and try my hardest to effect people the way you have. You created a whole new generation..a whole new breed just as you wanted to. But I wonder if you realaized that all that would go beyond drumming. People that come on here do not only say that you were a great teacher and you greatly improved their skills. They speak of you with such respect and honor..because you didnt only better their technique but you also bettered their lives. And you did this for me as well. There are so many days that your words go through my head and make me not only want more of myself but they give me the strength to work for myself...to better myself..to be strong. You are a mentor to many people...and I hope through this site...you will become a mentor to many more people..just as you have to me. I am going to try my hardest to help you out with this. I only hope I can give you as much as you deserve. Thank you...and your name will live on foever in many people! You are an incredible man indeed.

I Grew up 1 mile from Gary yet didn't Know,meet or study with him until I was 19 and moved out He became a great mentor for me beyond drumming He lit a fire of passion and confidence under me.He just Frankly pointed out and showed me that all the tools necesserry to play with any one .He was a no Bull sh#$%^ cat.Gruff but clear and big hearted. Later I vistited him back from a nice tour With David cassidy he said in front of another student " Jon looks like 1mill $s' but is an asshole cause now he can only play 1 thing well, that gig Now Go back home and practice" !!! That was Gary

Although he died befoe he was born, he was a damn-good drummer. Being his namesake and a fellow musician, i am glad to see that his memory is honoured in this way.

who ever did the biography on my uncle chester did a great job .I was so happy to see that he has his one website allways loved and never will be forgotten. Great job Love Lita !!!!!!

Never knew the man but after reading about him in Modern Drummer (Nov 2002) and working with his daughter Gail Chester at Jawonio, I know I have missed the greatest opportunity of a lifetime. Many people who came across Mr. Chester's path were damn lucky and priveledged to do so. May his legacy live forever on thru his music and his family that he loved!

Excellent job. He is truly one of a kind and missed. Spending more time at Jena's, (Gary's) house than my own sometimes, he was like a second Dad to me, (only Gary 'grounded' me more than my Dad.) Beautiful tribute to a wonderful man.

who will ever forget him, what a great man, so much fun and wisdom and sense. Dave Bell took me to meet him when I was on tour from Australia in The Go Betweens and then he taught me by tape. I had to send him tapes playing to a click. I still have his responses. Thanks to Dave Bell for the wonderful opportunity to meet such a brilliant guy.
